An extremely concerned Canadian goose couldn’t help but check in on her partner as it was undergoing surgery at a Massachusetts animal sanctuary this week. The New England Wildlife Center’s Cape Cod Branch was attempting to help Arnold, who lives in a nearby pond, with two fractures on his foot that were causing him to limp. However, Arnold’s partner couldn’t bear to be away from him and visited the sanctuary to make sure he was okay throughout.
Arnold’s partner was desperate to be near him. As the center shared on their Facebook page, they heard a tapping on the door of the clinic just before they took Arnold into surgery. “She had somehow located him and was agitated that she could not get inside,” they shared. “She remained there throughout the entire procedure, watching us work, never moving from the doorway.”
She got to watch him as he came out of the procedure. Officials at the clinic allowed Arnold to wake up from anesthesia and make his recovery in full view of the doorway so he and his mate could see one another. “His mate immediately calmed down and began to groom him through the door,” the center posted. “They both seemed much more at ease in each other’s presence.”
Thankfully, the surgery went well. Arnold’s foot should be back to normal in no time and he’ll be able to walk about freely. The surgery believes that a snapping turtle or some other predator may have attacked him while swimming, hence the injury, which wouldn’t have recovered without the operation.
Sadly, they may need to be separated for a few weeks. It may take Arnold a little while to recover, meaning he and his mate won’t be able to properly be together for a bit. However, as long as she can keep her eyes on him and know he’s okay, hopefully they’ll both be alright!
