Woman Discovers She Was ‘Kidnapped’ As A Kid And Has Been ‘Missing’ For 40 Years

A woman on TikTok has revealed that she discovered as an adult that her entire childhood was a lie and that she’d been “kidnapped” as a toddler and had technically been “missing” since 1980. The now 42-year-old woman, who uses the handle @thebeardedmom, shared the harrowing story with her followers in 14 parts, leaving viewers shocked and saddened by what she had to endure. Thankfully, she seems to be doing much better these days and learning to cope with the trauma she experienced.

She learned the truth when she was 26. In the videos, she prefaced the story by mentioning that she’s “in a healthy place in my life for the first time” since finding out the truth about her upbringing. However, she only learned her own story after she contacted the sheriff in her hometown because she was getting married and didn’t know anything about her birth mom since she’d been adopted when she was only two.

As soon as the sheriff met her, he knew something was up. “I sat down, he told me he couldn’t find any information about my mother, but that I was a missing person,” she recalled. While her case was technically closed and considered unsolved, she was still technically missing. “There was a police investigation I could not access beacuse the records had been archived, but I had been kidnapped,” she shared.

As it turns out, her birth mother sold her. In the heartbreaking videos, the woman reveals that her mother sold her as a baby and that her grandmother had no idea what her birth mother had done and reported her granddaughter missing. Instead, she was raised by the family that abducted her until the state gained custody of her and gave her a new name and social security number.

She went through some difficult times coming to terms with what happened to her. However, after many years and hard work, she’s finally found peace – not to mention lots and support and praise from TikTokers who watched her videos and were moved by her story. Asked how she’s coping, she responded: “Good friends, good times, more good memories than bad memories.” Good for her!
